St. Augustine Wedding Photographer, Vermont Wedding Photographer: Ali & Mike Wasko, Burlington, Vermont Wedding
A lesson of rain and love:
Ali and Mike planned it perfectly. To be married on October 4, peak weekend of fall foliage in Burlington, Vermont. Their ceremony was to be held on the rooftop of the Sunset Ballroom with views of Lake Champlain and photos at Shelburne Vineyard. I was BEYOND excited for the warm orange sunset I had in mind and the leaves falling lightly around them during their couples portraits.
The day finally arrived after three consecutive days of sunshine in Vermont (of course) and it all turned to rain. The percentage was 90%. There was no "maybe". When I met Ali that morning, she was at ease. She and her bridesmaids had came prepared with fun umbrellas (as I asked) and rain jackets. They were ready to get wet and didn't mind. The ceremony location changed to inside the ballroom, which turned out great and very intimate with everyone in their seats watching. We never made it to Shelburne Vineyard so the bridal party photos were arranged inside the hotel and came out AWESOME. Ali and Mike were flexible enough to go out in the rain (thanks to Ali's big plastic umbrella!) and we found some shelter in the woods behind the hotel. These turned out to be some of the best photos I have ever taken.
This long winded story has one truth: The day will be as it is. And when there are two people who truly love each other merging families and lives—rain will not put a dampen on anything. Ali and Mike were great to work with and I have to give a shout to my bridal party helpers (you know who you are) who held an umbrella over my head while I was shooting their portraits.
Oh, they also had one of the best receptions I have seen! Literally everyone was on the dance floor. Both Ali and Mike's families know how to have fun (as you'll see in the images).
So what do we do, as photographers, when weather changes? When all of our original photo plans change? We keep on creating.
